What is an ESID (ESI ID) and where do I find it?

An ESID (also written ESI ID) is the Electric Service Identifier. Texas rules define it as the basic identifier assigned to each point of delivery in the systems that ERCOT, or another independent organization, manages. A bill from your retail electric provider must show it, next to your service address and account number.

What does an ESID identify?

A place, not a person.

The ESID identifies a point of delivery. That is a spot where electricity is delivered. Texas rules say it is used in the registration and settlement systems that ERCOT, or another independent organization, manages.

Where to find it on your bill

Look for a label such as "ESI ID."

Texas rules require your retail electric provider's bill to show your service address, your ESI ID, and your account number. Bills are laid out differently, so scan for the label instead of a spot on the page.
